Spanish
SPANISH 1 A-B (0900 and 0901)
Year: 2 credits
Grade Level : 9, 10, 11, 12
Prerequisite: none
Dual credit may be taken through College of Western Idaho dependent upon age/grade
Student must be able to take notes, organize and retrieve information quickly. She/he will learn basic vocabulary and sentence structure through the use of short stories, participation in small skits, class work, pictures and films. Active acquisition and use of target language is encouraged

Student will enlarge vocabulary and will be exposed to past and future tenses of Spanish through the continuation of previous format, skits, class work, stories, pictures and films. Improve ability to discuss with instructor or native speaker any commonplace school, family or community event. Be able to converse with hesitation and develop spontaneity.

It will improve the student’s ability to deal with new, daily life, travel, and work situations in the target language. Students will read Spanish novels and study Spanish history

American sign language
AMERICAN SIGN LANGUAGE 1 A-B (0920 and 0921)

This full year course introduces the student to basic American Sign Language conversation, vocabulary, and grammar and is offered for dual credit through the College of Western Idaho. Students are introduced to the history and culture of American Sign Language. The course will be taught through a bilingual-bicultural method using American Sign Language as the target language. Conversation in American Sign Language is encouraged and expected

Students will also be introduced to Deaf history and culture. Students will begin study and integration of the linguistics of ASL. Semester projects will focus on topics pertinent to Deaf culture, Deaf history, and Deaf education. Conversation in American Sign Language is strongly encouraged and expected

This full year course will continue to introduce and build vocabulary from the foundation of ASL I and II focusing on mastering ASL grammar, and sentence structure and may be offered for dual credit through the College of Western Idaho . Students will continue with an integrated study of the linguistics of ASL using curriculum from CSUN professor Dr. Bill Vicars. Student projects will include creative pieces of storytelling and poetry. The focus of instruction will strive toward immersion of ASL as the main mode of conversation. Dual credit may be an option through CWI
