Ag I/II Leadership A-B is an entry-level course that allows students to explore all areas of the Ag industry. Freshmen successfully completing this course or the Intro to Ag Mechanics course will meet prerequisite requirements for mechanics courses offered to sophomores. Career exploration, safety, basic business, basic marketing, parliamentary procedure, communications, public speaking, record keeping, beginning woodworking, plastic welding, FFA, beginning animal science, and beginning plant science will be covered. Students will be involved with small hands-on projects in most areas.

Students will also explore how humans use and manage these ecosystems. This class will also involve field trips to sample local soils.

In this class students will learn how to identify plants, tools, and architectural features that are used in modern landscaping. Students can expect to learn the basics to laying out a landscape for commercial and residential properties. Students will create real plans in color that they may use to design their dream landscape. Students will learn about irrigation system setup and design along with paver and brick wall instillation. Students will also spend time in the greenhouse learning about cutting. Students are allowed to keep all the plants that they start from cuttings while working in the greenhouse.

This class is a lecture based class which will include bookwork on theory of the 3 basic engine systems. Students will learn to look up parts and order them correctly. There will be an opportunity to work on limited projects.

Students will have the opportunity to learn to ARC weld “stick”, OXY weld “cutting torch”, and TIG weld “aluminum/stainless”. Students will be able to produce several welding projects over the semester that they may keep. Students will also be able to produce small beginning welding projects using the plasma cam. During the second semester students will be able to use a machine to produce ornamental metal projects such as gates, garden trellises, chandeliers, and wall hangings. Students who pass this class can expect to find employment in the field of welding starting at $12-$15 per hour out of high school.
