Semester/Year: 1 or 2 credits
Grade Level: 10, 11, 12
Prerequisite: Teacher Reference and Librarian’s signature. You must have a core and cumulative GPA of at least 2.0, and attendance record of at least 90% from previous semester, and a good discipline record.
Grade: You will receive a letter grade.
Students will gain organizational skills that will prepare them to work in a school or public library or to do research in a college library. These skills can include: using the computer (OPAC) to search for and check out books and other materials to patrons. Use the Internet and various search engines to locate specific information and be able to teach others to do the same. Check in and prepare periodicals (magazines) for display. Prepare books and audio-visual materials for check out and do basic book repair. Operate audio-visual equipment in the A-V room including the copier, and the laminator. Be competent at finding materials organized within the Dewey Decimal classification system.

iT HELP DESK (0297 AND 0298)

Prerequisite – Application, instructor interview, and instructor’s signature required on registration form. If approved, students will be admitted to the class on a conditional basis. Continuation into the second semester will require instructor’s permission. You must have a core and cumulative GPA of at least 2.0, and attendance record of at least 90% from previous semester, and a good discipline record.

Students taking this course will gain valuable work experience while continuously learning and growing around current technology.

- Assist in coordinating technical training for student/teacher professional development.
- Complete a NInja portfolio that reflects growth of knowledge.In addition to solving problems for their classmates and teachers, students will be required to complete and maintain several running projects that address problems or solutions to the MHS 1:1 Laptop Program. \

To promote volunteerism among students throughout their school years, MHS offers the VIKING SERVICE AWARD program. Volunteer hours may be accumulated each school year as follows: 9th/10th grades – 30 hours (combined); 11th grade – additional 30 hours; 12th grade – additional 40 hours. Upon completion of 100 hours of service in the Senior Year, students are awarded one elective credit, special graduation recognition and a transcript notation to show proof of service.
This is a non-classroom activity performed during students’ time away from school.
